In our century, a theatre that does not pursue a spiritual existence and ideas, and does not convey more-than-life, is not truly topical. One does not go to the theatre to see and hear life.
If so, then what? Probably the essences of life, what exists beyond forms, gestures, movements, or words, namely ideas, feelings, passions, tempers, destinies, contradictions, desires. One does not go to the theatre to get a feeling of life – that feeling may be experienced in the street, in everyday life; one goes to the theatre to discover what lies beyond that feeling, beyond life, beyond the perceptible mechanisms of life.
Metaphor theatre does not say "this is life", but "this is more-than-life", and the performance needn’t draw comparisons to a model, but be a meditation, go beyond perception, provide new matter to the essence of life. Metaphor theatre recharges minds, awakens consciences, offers human equations instead of mere equivalents.
In the cultural multitude and reality of the city of Toronto, Theatre as a Metaphor and its partners wish to join the group of enthusiastic artists, both Romanians and Canadians, whose aim is the propagation and progress of Romanian culture.
